Blogger-Reader Date

Oh, hey, thanks for meeting me. You look stunning. Yesterday I told you that if you were lucky, you'd get a Friday night blogger-reader date with me at nine o'clock. Or by nine o'clock. Though I have a feeling this conversation is going to be a bit one-sided. But we'd better get started, because I have some things to tell you and I haven't seen the waiter come by.

On Friday nights I like to catch up on my on-line television viewing. At the beginning of the school year, I felt overwhelmed because I had so many shows to watch (Covert Affairs, Under Covers, Nikita, and Glee when I felt like it). I should have been more thankful that those spy shows were on then. Covert Affairs wasn't really that good, but its season is done until this coming summer. I've been checking back on Hulu for new episodes of Under Covers (kind of my favorite) and Nikita. There hasn't been anything new in ages. So what do I do? Google news them both, of course. Do you know what I discovered? NBC has canceled Under Covers. This is a tragedy, and it always happens to me. After Alias ended, it took me forever to discover Lost. And then when Lost was over, I found Flash Forward, which was very brief, though riveting (in my opinion). And now they've gone and canceled the best spy show there's been in a while.

My problem is that I am too loyal. I have one show that I love, and one show only. So when it leaves me, I enter heartbreak. I ache to find something I can look forward to every week. I'm afraid I might rebound and start watching The Bachelor again, even though I finally quit like, two seasons ago. Good news is, Nikita is supposed to be back on next week. I will cling to her like a baby. You know, if babies clung to trained assassins who are dressed in black leather and own extensive weapon collections.

Oh hey look, our food has arrived. I know right? And you didn't even order anything. But it's your favorite, rest assured. Dig in.

Sometimes when you don't really know someone very well, you talk about really lame subjects such as the weather. Unless you've recently experienced a tornado or flood or something, it's usually not that interesting. I, however, had a wonderful weather-related conversation yesterday after school. I was standing at the back side of the school by the gym (which is where I am supposed to stand from 3:15 to 3:30 while students are leaving the premises), and I saw my old student from last year. Tyler (now a 5th grader) came up to me and started a conversation, as usual. He asked me what I'd been doing. I told him about the things I've been teaching my class recently. I asked him what he had been learning about. He said weather and climate. So then we started talking about collecting data. Apparently everyday the students in his class have to check the temperature and record if it is sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowing, etc. Plus, he was able to tell me about the type of clouds currently in the sky. I later complimented him on his use of "precipitation" in a sentence. It was really a nice, intellectual conversation, and after he left, I realized that is what I like best about being a teacher: I like talking to my old students. Because they are not currently in my class, our relationship is nothing but positive. I don't have to discipline them. They are excited to see me. The problem is, in order to get old students, you have to have current ones. And they give me headaches.

Did you order this dessert? Because it looks delicious. Mind if I try a bite?

Did you ever watch Even Stevens? With Shia LeBeouf? You know, when he was still a kid in middle school and not starring in Transformers with Megan Fox? I loved that show because it was hilarious. Well, I've got this student, "Drew," and I sort of wish he could have his own TV show. Drew created bread people. He's also the one who came in a few months ago with his cello case and was all "Hey look teacher, I'm a rock and roller! All I need is an ugly jacket and a beard." Well, this morning when he came in, he sat at a seat that was not his (he usually sits in at least three people's seats before the bell rings) and says to a group of kids, "Last night I learned beauty tips from Megan Fox." He says all of these things in his chubby-cheeked Spanish accent.

Oh look, the bill came. Don't worry though, your pretend meal is on me. We'll have to do this again sometime.

He's getting married

Oh my gatos they would air Jason and Molly's wedding on ABC. And even though I was really good about not watching the recent season of The Bachelor with Jake (didn't watch any episodes, didn't google news it, didn't read blogs about it, etc), I so totally have to watch Jason tie the knot. Even if he was an ass to poor Melissa.

So once again, ABC is going to suck up my time. Two whole hours. I swear to you, this is it. No more. I better get in the shower because it starts in 28 minutes.

Why I hate TV

Last night I told Natalie that I am never watching "reality" shows ever again, only TV shows I know are completely fictional. You just never know what the truth is these days. I was extremely upset at how the end of The Bachelor turned out. Yes, Jason did what I wanted and proposed to Melissa. Then six weeks (but essentially five minutes in TV time) later he dumps her and wants Molly back. Seriously, what the heck? Who does that to someone? Who full on proposes, and then takes it back? If you are going to propose, you better know for sure. Anyway, I was super pissed and glad it was over so that I will never watch The Bachelor ever again, or any other reality show.

But I have to take it back, because today I watched After the Final Rose Ceremony, part TWO. In this stupid episode, they bring Jason and Molly back to see how they are doing (hate them both now), but then the host announces who the new bachelorette is going to be. Of course it's Jillian. Love her. I said that I would never watch The Bachelor again unless it were Melissa or Jillian. Well, Jason was an idiot and is with neither girl, and now the spotlight's going to be on Jill. Now I have to watch it.

I know the only reason they picked their new bachelorette immediately was because they knew every woman in America was hating on ABC. No one was going to watch again unless it were Jillian. This is how this awful chain of addiction happened. ABC knows just what to do.
event 1: Brad Womack chooses neither Jenny nor DeAnna in the end. He sends both girls home and does not want to pursue either relationship further. America is stunned and outraged.
response 1: ABC chooses DeAnna as the bachelorette, because America liked her and wanted to see her find her happy ending.
event 2: The Bachelorette airs, with DeAnna starring. In the end, she chooses snowboarder Jesse over the obvious choice, Jason. America is stunned and semi-outraged. Many woman plea with ABC to have Jason be the next bachelor.
response 2: ABC chooses Jason for The Bachelor, because his heart was broken with DeAnna, since he was down on one knee about to propose.
event 3: Jason stars in his show, proposes to Melissa, then breaks it off six weeks later on national television. Then he asks his second choice, Molly, if she'll take him back. She agrees. Poor Melissa leaves broken hearted. America is stunned and extremely outraged like never before.
response 3: ABC wastes no time in selecting and announcing the bachelorette, Jillian, who was the third runner up. Everyone loved her since she was totally honest, fun, and real (also, not a bitch like some people with names starting with m and ending in olly).
event 4: Jillian will star as the bachelorette. Hopefully she will find the man of her dreams and not break some other cute guy's heart, because if she does....then....
response 4: the cute guy she dumps will be the next bachelor, and I'll have to watch that crap too. Make a smart choice, Jill, please.

While I am mad, it's not my life, so I can probably get over it in a day or two. On the plus side, my last two books came in the mail, so I am going to have some really good reading over the weekend (after student grades are done on Friday).

I am going to sleep at 8:30 because I have been sick for the last seven days now, but cannot convince myself to get a sub for tomorrow. My personality won't allow it. I only missed one college class in all my life because I was really ill, and I missed like five days all of high school. I don't miss work. Sucks, too, since I get paid for being sick and staying at home.

I can quit my addiction in a few days

Oh my gatos I know this is really pathetic but The Bachelor finale is on tonight and I can't watch it due to the whole no TV thing. I have a really stupid late meeting tomorrow, but you can bet your pocket change that I will be on-line watching the episode as soon as I get home. There are all these rumors that Jason is going to propose to Melissa and then dump her later to date Molly. I think that's a really mean thing to do, especially considering Melissa has admitted to being dumped in all of her relationships. She's never the one who breaks it off. Also, with this drama about DeAnna--seriously, get her off of ABC. This marks the third season she's been on. No more, please. I can't take it. I don't think she's really meeting Jason again to confess her undying love for him, and I don't think he cares about her anymore (at least I hope he doesn't). It's a good thing The Bachelor is almost over, because then I can swear it off for life (unless of course, Melissa or Jillian become The Bachelorette--then I'll be obligated to watch).

In other news, my kids are taking the state writing test, the state math test, and some delinquent child broke my brand new pink pencil sharpener. By brand new I mean today I took it out of its package. I am really pissed about it. I don't know who the culprit is. I obviously need to set up a spy cam by my desk--oh wait, the district already did. My mom thinks my computer virus is completely unrelated to people from HR checking up on me, but I know the truth. They set that trojan on me to hack into my files and following my on-line activity. Because I am a spy. I work for the CIA and I'm doing an investigation on public schools, posing as a teacher.

The good news about tomorrow's incredibly late meeting is that it takes place in West Salem, so I am def. going to Panda Express for dinner. With my giftcard. And then I will have leftovers for Wednesday, which is good, because Wednesdays suck. Well, not the whole Wednesday. Wednesdays suck from 8am to 3:30 pm, but after that they are good because I don't have any meetings after school and can leave earlier than I typically do. Plus, the next morning is my one hour prep period straight away in the morning.

My superhero cousin (the engineer) is nursing my computer back to health, so I should have it back in a few days. Then I just have to reload my life. I have to put back all my important, vital documents and then start the grossly long process of recreating my iTunes library.

By the way, did you know grades are due next Friday? Holy cow, I know. My kids still have to do a science experiment before then so I can put it on their report cards. Natalie, I am stealing your chip/greasiness experiment. It's easy to do with clear results. Plus, maybe kids will stop eating Hot Cheetohs like it's its own food group.

I am going to see someone at the really long meeting tomorrow who is going to ask me where three months of back work is, so I better find it (do it) so I can submit it to her.

If you watch The Bachelor tonight then I forbid you from telling me the results.
